Frequently asked questions
Straight answers from Bobcat Bail Bonds.
How does the bail bond process work?
After an arrest, a judge or magistrate sets a bail amount. You pay a bail bond company a non-refundable premium (typically 10% of the total bail in Texas) and the company posts the full bond with the jail, securing the person's release while the case moves through court.
How quickly can someone be released?
Once paperwork is signed and the premium is handled, release from the Hays County Jail typically takes 2-6 hours, depending on how busy the jail is and how quickly booking is processed.
Do you offer bail bonds 24/7?
Yes. Bobcat Bail Bonds is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays, because arrests don't happen on a schedule.
What percentage of the bail do I actually pay?
In Texas, the standard bail bond premium is 10% of the total bail amount set by the court. This premium is the fee for the bond service and is not refunded once the bond is posted, regardless of case outcome.
What happens if the defendant misses a court date?
Missing a court date can result in the bond being forfeited and a warrant issued for arrest. If collateral was used to secure the bond, it may be at risk. Contact us immediately if a court date is going to be missed — the earlier we know, the more options exist.
What is collateral and do I need it?
Collateral is property (a vehicle title, real estate, or other asset) pledged to secure a bond, usually requested for larger bail amounts. Not every bond requires collateral — it depends on the bail amount and the defendant's ties to the community.
Can I get a payment plan?
Yes, for qualified applicants. We offer structured payment plans so the premium doesn't have to be paid in one lump sum. Ask about eligibility when you call (737) 414-0422.
Do you offer bail bond assistance in Spanish?
Yes. Se habla español — our team can walk you through the entire process in Spanish, from the first call through the court date.
What information do I need when I call?
Have the defendant's full name, date of birth, and the county/jail where they're being held, if known. If you don't have all of it, call anyway — we can often look it up.
Does a bail bond guarantee the case will be dismissed?
No. A bail bond only secures release from jail while the case proceeds — it has no effect on the outcome of the criminal case itself, which is handled separately by the court.
